About Steve

Steve is my husband, called "Steve" by all who know him. We met in the Florida Keys in April of 1978 on an organized SCUBA diving trip. We married a little over a year later on August 11th. There are no children.

He was the first born to Robert John "Bob" Hudson and Althea Ceals Moon. He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. The family moved to Duval County when he was about six years old. Steve graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher High School, Neptune Beach and began working for Southern Bell, which became BellSouth and is now AT&T again, in August that same year. His first position was Lineman, then he became a Cable Repairman. Steve was a Digital Technician and worked out of Baxley, Georgia, when he retired August 2007 just as the company was converting back to AT&T. He has 41 years of faithful service. Steve also has an Honorable Discharge from the Jacksonville National Guard, Delta Company, 146th Signal Battalian. His Rank was E-6 (Staff Sgt). He served our country from in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He used to own a 1973 R75 BMW motorcycle and also a 1969 Z28 Chevrolet Camero 302 V8. The Camero was a true 'muscle' car from that era. My precious husband had a brush with death once from a ruptured colon. This is a common problem inherited from the Moon side of the family, we've learned. He had at least one great Uncle die from this dangerous condition. Dr. Earnest Kimball, III, at Baptist Memorial Hospital literally saved his life that night. He had to endure two rather painful, but necessary, reconstructive surgeries that same year. He now gets a regular checkup every few years and appears to be completely recovered.

Steve is a talented woodworker and artist. He specializes in birds and nature sketches. He also enjoys hunting with traditional archery, but because of poor physical health he has had to stop hunting. He does enjoy making his own arrows and equipment, motorcycling, camping, family and friends, and vegetable gardening (although that too is now curtailed because of health). He is a well-adjusted, intelligent, humourous, kind hearted, generous individual. He is truly my Split-Apart and Soul Mate.

About Me

I am the adopted child of Donald Willard "Don" Ackman and 1st wife Helen Mae Koethe. My adopted parents moved to Titusville, Brevard County, Florida in 1952 from Allegheny and Washington Counties, Pennsylvania. Both were the children and grandchildren of farmers. I was born in Florida, and at the age of two days they brought me home. Click this link to read more about my biological family.

I grew up in Titusville and attended South Lake Elementary School, then Parkway Junior High School, Titusville High School for one year, and finally Astronaut High School. Astronaut was just built near our home, so, I completed my education there and graduated from same.

I left Titusville after graduation and very rarely went home but I still clearly remember the dirt road I grew up on near Garden Street. Those days it was a narrow, lazy, two-lane road. Titusville was a quaint southern town then. Dad said Garden Street used to be nothing but a cow path shortly before I was a sentient being. Now, it's a bustling four-lane highway that stretches from I-95 from the west to the Intercoastal Waterway to the east. It's all wall-to-wall transplanted yankees and fast food joints. It was a typical small town and we used to know most everyone when I was growing up. It's not like that anymore.

My adopted mother died suddenly August 17th, 1966 when I was just a tike. A few months later, my grandfather, Charles Ackman, died on a fishing trip with my Dad. A few months later after that my mother's brother, Uncle Darrell (Richard Darrell Koethe), died suddenly of a heart attack in Orlando, Florida. This is when I became interested in family genealogy. Life can be tragically short and it is so important to keep notes of ones lineage so others may carry on this knowledge. Proceeding on with my original thoughts, Dad, now deceased, left Titusville in the mid-1980s after retiring from FP&L and moved not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Rutherford County, North Carolina, with his third wife, Myra, who sadly is also now deceased. She was an amazing lady.

I met my first husband in Titusville at a Vacation Bible School and we married there at the non-demoninational Church of God on Carpenter Street. Immediately upon college graduation, he had obtained a good job in Jacksonville, Florida, so, we were uprooted from our small town connections to the bustling city. He and I divorced and I started dating Steve. We've had a delightful raport since our first meeting and were married soon after my divorce. We honeymooned in lovely Arizona and Utah. Visiting the desert southwest was such a culture shock for me! I have worked for many years in accounting and secretarial capacities. After our move to southeastern Georgia, I decided to retire. My working title at that time was Accountant.

We are both avid motorcyclists. Below is a photo of me on my first bike: 1979 Kawasaki KZ650 motorcycle. I sold that and was bikeless for many years. When I got back into motorcycling (a very wise choice!), I bought a 2004 Kawasaki 750cc Vulcan. I outgrew it and purchased a 2006 Kawasaki 900 LT Classic. Now I am the proud owner of a 2007 Suzuki V-Strom 650, affectionately known as a "Wee Strom". It's great for getting me down our poorly graded dirt road. Eventually, we would like to tour America on our bikes. Click on the photos to enlarge.

The things I enjoy most are: following & believing in my blessed Lord Jesus Christ; my husband and best friend, Steve; our dogs, motorcycling(!!), being with friends and family oriented events, genealogy, traveling the USA, webpage design, accounting concerns, and digital photography. Oh, and be sure to check-out my 'webpage' at Find A Grave. Ride Safe, my friends! :o)
